Training For Cycling 100 Miles In A Day

One of my goals last year when I started to use my bike a bit more seriously was to cycle 100 miles in a day. It sounds easy after all those guys on the Tour De France cycle that every day for three weeks and more over mountains and stuff. So I thought I would give it a go. In Spain distances are measured in kilometres so the distance sounds worse. 160km is needed. It was summer and Spain gets hot so after about the first twenty kilometres, 15 miles, I was a bit dehydrated. The water supply lasted about 10km, no more. I turned around and just made it home before literally collapsing in a heap with jelly legs.

I thought that what I needed was some training so I got online and looked for a training course that suited me. Well what I found was this training course. I was told what I needed to do, how to avoid mitake and lots more.

All of the advice and tips it gave were followed. I went out to practice on the bike. I changed my diet to include more carbs before major rides. Three months later, on trying for the first time, I did it. I took small steps and built up to get there as small steps get you to a big goal.

Therefore I highly recommend this course as it comes from experience. It takes you by the hand, or the pedal with step by step instructions of how to get to where you want to be. There are other benefits from doing this too. My level of fitness improved a lot. My heart rate on resting went down considerably. My leg muscles grew so i didn’t lose weight but I am a bit of a stick anyway so that wasn’t the intention. The experience satisfied me totally.

If you want something for not so specific a target then check out David’s training programmes here. Lots of info abou real training programmes from a master in the art of cycling. This is when you have different goals to that of riding 100 miles in a day but the tipds in there are invaluable for any cyclist.
